Dog attacks man who intervened to defend his pet

by Adrian

A dog has attacked a man who stepped in to defend his own pet while out walking in local woods, police said.

The man, in his 70s, suffered several bites to his wrist in Kew Woods, Southport, at 10:00 BST on 24 April, and required hospital treatment.

Merseyside Police said a German Shepherd tried to attack the man's dog, but the owner himself was attacked when he "intervened" to protect his pet. He is recovering at home.

Police have appealed to find the owner of the German Shepherd, who reportedly walked away via Dobbies garden centre car park.

He is described as a white man in his 70s.

Det Insp Gavin Mulcahy said: "The victim sustained several puncture wounds to his wrist, and was in distress.

"It is imperative that we find the dog so it cannot harm anyone else."
